Players are ranked just like a ladder and grouped into boxes of 3. Inside a box each player has a letter: A is the top place, then B, then C. Your box and your letter are shown next to your name.

Up to 3 players above you, even if they are in the box above. Nobody below you can be challenged, and the top player has nobody above to challenge. The green "You can challenge" tag shows who is available.

Any time you are active (not on a break). You can have one active challenge at a time, and you have 7 days to play the match. If the match isn't played in time, the challenge expires.

If you beat the player above you, you swap places straight away. If you were the top of your box and beat the player at the bottom of the box above, you move up a box and they move down one. If you lose, nothing changes.

After the match, tap Report score and pick your opponent. Enter each game (best of 3 or best of 5, first to 11, win by 2). Your opponent has 24 hours to dispute it; after that it is final.

Use Set short break on your own row (any length from 1 day to 90 days). You can't challenge or be challenged during a break, and your place is kept. You move to Non active under the ladder after 21 days with no match or challenge (reminder 4 days before), 2 weeks without using the site and no play, or a challenge left unanswered; tap I'm back on your own row to return at the bottom of the active players with one comeback challenge (if you were away from the site, you come back by yourself when you open it again).
