Our vision

  1. 1

Play more people, not the same partner

We noticed that inside most clubs, people do not play with a different set of partners. They find one partner and keep playing them. We wanted better engagement and more people playing, and playing against each other: new opponents, new styles, more matches.

  2. 2

Travelling? Just turn up and play

When you travel and reach a new city or a new club, it should be easy to join that club's Ladder Ranking and start playing squash straight away. You can be brought in as a guest at a Social night, or join the ladder: at least you know who the top players are, and you can challenge them.

  3. 3

Clubs playing clubs, and a city Open

We wanted clubs in the same city to play each other, so we built Club vs Club matches. And every city has its own Open, for example the Hyderabad Open or the Pune Open, open to anybody in that city. So you are not limited to the members of one club: players from different clubs play each other.

How it works

  1. 1

    Find your club and join

Pick your city and club, sign in with your phone or email, and tap Join. You start at the bottom. It is free.

  2. 2

    Challenge someone above you

You can challenge anyone 1 to 3 places above you. They get a notice and accept or decline. Agree a time on WhatsApp.

  3. 3

    Play within 7 days

Play the match within 7 days of the challenge. Best of 3 or best of 5, games to 11, win by 2.

  4. 4

    Enter the score and climb

Either player enters the score. Win and you swap places at once; lose and nothing changes. The other player has 24 hours to dispute it.

Getting started

How do I join?

Open squashladder.in, tap Find your club (or pick your city, then your club), sign in with your phone number or email, and tap Join on the Main Ladder Ranking. It is free and takes about a minute.

Where do I start on the ladder?

Every new player starts at the bottom and climbs by winning challenges. Joining a club's Ladder Ranking also puts you at the bottom of its Box League (and the other way round), so you are in both.

I am visiting another city. Can I play there?

Yes. Join that club's ladder like any other player, or the city's Open ladder, which is for anybody in the city. You can see straight away who the top players are and challenge up to 3 places above you. At a Social night the organiser can also add you as a guest.

Do I need to install anything?

No, it works in your phone's browser. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app: tap Install app at the top of the page and follow the steps for your phone.

Ladder Ranking and Box League

What is the Ladder Ranking?

One ranking for your club, from number 1 down. It is for competitive play: you climb by beating the players above you.

What is the Box League?

The same players and the same order, but shown in small boxes of 3 (Himalaya, Peacock, Lotus, Neptune Spear and so on) instead of rank numbers. It is for social and fun play. Inside a box, A is the top place, then B, then C.

What is the difference between them?

Only how they are shown and who you see as your group. Both use the same rule: challenge up to 3 places above you, win to swap. In the Box League a win can move you up into the box above.

What is the city Open?

Every city has an Open ladder (for example the Hyderabad Open or the Pune Open). It is not tied to one club: anybody in the city can join, and you choose the venue with your opponent.

Challenges

Who can I challenge?

Anyone 1 to 3 places above you who is active (not on a break and not Non active). The green "You can challenge" tag on the ladder shows who is available. You cannot challenge players below you.

How do I send a challenge?

Tap Challenge next to their name. They get a notice in the app (and by email or phone alert if they turned those on) and can accept or decline. Then agree a time and court, for example on WhatsApp with one tap from the ladder.

How many challenges can I have?

One active challenge at a time, sent or received. When it is played, declined or expires, you can challenge again.

How long do we have to play?

7 days from when the challenge is sent. You both get a reminder 2 days before it runs out. If it is not played in time, it expires and nothing changes.

Scores

How do I enter a score?

After the match, either player taps Report score and enters each game. Best of 3 or best of 5, games to 11, win by 2. The winner is worked out from the games.

What happens when I win or lose?

If you beat a player above you, you swap places straight away. If you lose, nobody moves. If someone below you beats you, they take your place and you move down.

What if the score is wrong?

The other player has 24 hours to dispute it. After that it is final. A disputed score goes to the admin, who keeps it or cancels it.

Breaks and Non active

I am away or injured. What do I do?

Tap Set short break on your own row and choose how long (1 to 90 days). Your place is kept, you cannot challenge or be challenged, and any open challenges are cancelled. The break ends by itself, or you can end it early.

What does Non active mean?

You move to the numbered Non active list under the ladder if: you have had no match and no challenge (sent or accepted) at the club for 21 days (you get a reminder 4 days before); or you have not used the site for 2 weeks and not played either; or a challenge to you ran out its 7 days without an answer. Non active players cannot be challenged and do not block anyone.

How do I come back?

Tap I'm back on your own row. You return at the bottom of the active players, with one comeback challenge you can use against anyone from your old place down. If you were moved for being away from the site, you come back by yourself the next time you open it.

Other ways to play

What is a Social night?

A club night where everyone plays everyone, in short games. The points you score add up over the night and the season. The organiser (the club's Admin / Coach) adds players, including guests, and anyone can enter their own scores.

What is Find me a partner?

Tick the times you are free this week. We match you with a player from your club who is free at the same time, and you both accept with one tap.

What is Club vs Club?

A match night between two clubs in the same city. The organiser enters the players and courts, the site makes the schedule (who plays whom, on which court, at what time) and the scores add up for each club.

Notifications and the app

How will I know I have been challenged?

The bell at the top of the site shows every notice. You can also turn on email and phone alerts on your profile page. Texts are not sent.

How do I install the app?

Tap Install app at the top of any page. On Android and on computers it installs with one tap; on iPhone it shows the two steps in Safari (Share, then Add to Home Screen).

Fair play is everything. Challenge honestly, report the real score, and let the rankings reflect the truth.
